I always wondered why those shows never appealed to me, now I know. For a long time I never saw a woman on the big screen or small screen who represented me. It also explains why I loved Alien so much even though I didn't connect the dots at a young age that it was the first woman I'd ever seen on screen who was authentic. She was no damsel in distress.
